The Thames Path National Trail from the source of the Thames, near Kemble (Gloucestershire), to the Thames Barrier in London is an amazing walk and highly recommended. But don’t all rivers run to the sea? So how come the path ends in London? Well, no longer! The path has now been extended so that you can follow the great river all the way to the Isle of Grain on the Kent coast. Yipee! I booked some time off, roped in my walking buddy and tried to get some maps. Unfortunately, I found it pretty near impossible to find much practical information about the route. All of my searches on know-it-all Google ended up with that one map above: showing the proposed new path. So with 3 days booked off to walk the roughly 50 miles, I’m going to record our journey, including stopping points and places to stay, and hopefully provide some pointers for anyone else looking to do this walk. This won’t be your regular rolling hills and peaceful forest kind of walk, but I’m excited to explore this unknown corner of England to see what it has to offer.
